Hegseth's no macho left behind move toward testing testosterone to see if the troops are inclined to be aggressive enough, and inject them to make sure they are, puts me in mind of Union General Philip Sheridan, who in his scorched earth campaign in the Shenandoah, vowed that there "wouldn't be a grease spot left" of his Confederate foes. This is the take-no-prisoners warrior who, in the campaign of genocide against native Americans some years later, proclaimed that "the only good Indian is a dead Indian." And this is the man, who, at the battle at Five Forks that sealed Lee's fate, was confronted by a Union soldier with a grievous neck wound, blood pouring from a severed artery, who cried, "I'm killed". And Sheridan, astride his horse, urged, "Nonsense man, you're not hurt at all. Pick up your rifle and move on up to the front." The man moved a few steps and then, naturally, died. This is the kind of machismo the deranged former Fox propagandist demands from his subordinates. Time for him to go away.

His departure now would not be soon enough, Steve.

I heartily agree. He never should have been assigned this post in the first place. IMO, he is a certifiable malignant narcissist, just like the hateful person who appointed him. And we mustn't forget the culpability of the Repugs who approved him. A pox on all of them.

Solution: Let's stick together in voting the bums out of office and work for better government in the future

Hegseth doesn't want women in the military

Clark Walker's avatar

Only a fool would think that.

As a 73 year old woman with osteoporosis and GSM I find it interesting that testosterone is so easily accessible to men, while it is much more difficult for women to get estrogen therapy when they are several years past menopause and in their late 60s and 70s. There is still hesitancy among most physicians about providing estrogen to women in this group due to certain medical concerns like cardiac issues. We need a prescription for low dose vaginal estrogen and have to be approved by a doctor, while testosterone is direct to consumer for all men.

Love her, and can't believe the Taylor Farm's Trump $ Contributor factor - how the FDA retracted with Sunday's "false positive" and then how Taylor Farm claimed an "apology" from FDA, followed by FDA saying that Taylor was definitely involved, and not just to Taco Bell, but Sysco (supplier to nursing homes, schools, hospitals).

Have heard that universal T therapy may cause Infertility!

The good doctor said as much .

Thank you, Katie ,for your continued energy in covering current and notable issues that concern us all in our country.

You ended on a note of particular interest to me regarding the need for a unified message from the Democratic party leading into the midterm elections. Spirited discussion of matters of opinion are important within the party, but they must never divide us to the point of undermining the final stance that we must take to save our nation from this current fascist regime and that is the promise to fight for the basic needs of our countrymen through social programs that will help all Americans throughout their lives in our country. Democrats must constantly remind We, The People of what it means to be the party of broadminded programs that will benefit all into a more prosperous hope for our progeny in the years to come.

Imagine if we spent as much energy on preventing disease as we do chasing internet myths. Public health would be a whole lot better off.

My personal experience has been that many natural meds are not what they are cracked up to be, but a few have actually worked for me and many pharmaceuticals have worked much better than natural meds, so, chasing myths is more about testing your reality to find what works for you and what doesn't.

Bill Couzens | The Common Good's avatar

Personal experience matters, but it is not the same as scientific evidence. Public policy should not be built on anecdotes or the idea that everyone should simply experiment until they find what works. Decisions about testosterone testing and treatment should be guided by sound science, careful research, and clear clinical evidence.

What concerns me just as much is the opportunity cost. We have respected journalists like Katie Couric and leading physicians and scientists spending their time addressing this issue when they could be focused on restoring access to care, strengthening prevention, rebuilding public health infrastructure, and tackling the health challenges we already know are harming millions of Americans.

Resources are finite. Expertise is finite. We should be directing both toward fixing what is already broken, not creating new distractions. Imagine if we invested as much energy in preventing disease and strengthening public health as we do chasing internet myths and political talking points. We'd all be better off.

All worthy thoughts to consider, Bill.

Thanks for your time and energy in seeking the wellbeing of all of us.

Thank you. I appreciate your understanding. It is painful to see so much talent and expertise consumed by manufactured emergencies and constant chaos. I am grateful for the clarity and for the effort to sort through it, but it feels like chasing false alarms, sending the fire department from one alarm to the next while the administration keeps lighting new fires.

Clark Walker's avatar

Their deception is all about keeping us deflected by their "fire alarms" while they go about the business of dismantling our government to suit their own desire for dominance in the world arena that will lead to their feathering their nests to the fullest in due time. Ergo, the rich get richer while many struggle to get by. Where is the equity in that? Ergo: our Democracy must remain strong for the betterment of our progeny and that of our neighbors , as well.
