Santayana: " "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Destroying education and history in particular erodes the ability to avoid this repetition of a prior disaster.

I have felt that over the years there has been a kind of dumbing down in America and the push to eliminate public schools by some political types has been evident and must be resisted, especially in the area of world and American history.

People need to know that our country is not perfect ,but historically, we have always tried to correct our course ,as we go, to make it a more perfect union through democratic means .

We must not let the current fascist threat deter our resolve to follow the guiding principles of our founding documents and continue to pursue the right course that these great declarations charge us to follow.

It is critical that we maintain a system in which strongly held differences can be discussed and negotiated without bloodshed.

I’m curious about Melissa’s thoughts on how best to react to large numbers of future climate refugees escaping drought and hunger. I agree with her point of view about welcoming refugees, but I worry about the potential of large numbers of displaced people in face of limited resources. This seems like a perfect recipe for social unrest and even war.

Good point. We can't keep kicking the can down the road on Global Warming.
