In the summer of 2022, Patriot Front attempted to stage a march where I live at an annual pride event in Coeur d’Alene, ID. A bystander saw them climbing into the back of a Uhaul and called it in to the local police as suspicious. They had come in from all over the US to stage this march in a town where they thought they might have a friendly reception. These buffoons aim to intimidate and drive away anyone who doesnt fit into their white supremacist, Christian Nationalist ideology. Clearly they know their views are abhorrent and/or they lack the courage to show their face while they push their bigoted ideology, otherwise they wouldn't cover themselves from head-to-toe.
Absolutely terrifying. And the administration's response? A shrug. Unconscionable. Everyone needs to hear Roswell's story. Thanks, Katie, for inviting him to speak with you.
My Mom lost her vision to Macular Degeneration in the last years of her life…She was such an Avid Rabid Reader that She was on a first name basis with all the Librarians at our Local Neva Lomason Public Library 📚 The ONLY thing that made her later years tolerable were the Books on Tape Program through the US Library of Congress! It was free…it was Convenient and She was Somewhat Satiated!!!! Thank You to Everyone who had a part in that Program!
So grateful for your interview with Roswell Encino who was willing to talk in detail about his experience on DC Metro w/ the white supremist group, he was respectful of the other young woman’s right to privacy, whose similar photo on DC Metro went viral
@katiecouric Wondering if you have read , The Book of Lost Friends, By Lisa Wingate? Similar to the book, James, both take place post Civil War, where slaves, in actuality are not free. I still see this in many modern day right wing extremist, whether they are wearing the sunglasses and mask or they’re working in Congress. They all have that good ole’ boy, redneck mentality.
@Katie Couric I was moved to write you after seeing this touching piece. Mr. Encina @Roswell Encina I’m so grateful you’re ok. That was a traumatic experience to be surrounded by those thugs. But more I resonated with your loving speech about your work and its importance to our country. I totally get how tenderly we federal workers nurture those American stories. I was a National Park ranger. My fight against the Trump administration’s censorship of our history was featured on Ali Velshi and NPR. Both of you perfectly expressed the feeling that I and all
